For years I have made plans over and over. Actually, they are the very same plans. Seems like they come up on Sundays. I labor over these plans. Pull all of my will power together and resolve to really get after it. My favorite piece of these plans is the promise to plot my accomplishments on my calendar once each week. I rarely make it out of the starting gate. It’s like the act of making a plan is all it takes to send me into an eating frenzy and a sure fire spot on my couch with a book!
One of those books happened to be Steven Pressfield’s, The War of Art. The title doesn’t give a good clue as to the treasure I found inside. The little book explained to me the why for all those eating frenzies and inactions I’d been suffering for so long. And, it even has a name, Resistance.
Resistance Is Invisible
Resistance cannot be seen, touched, heard, or smelled. But it can be felt. We experience it as an energy field radiating from a work-in-potential. It’s a repelling force. It’s negative. Its aim is to shove us away, distract us, prevent us from doing our work.
The War of Art
I found out that I have something that is real. It’s insidious. It’s there every single day. And Mr. Pressfield’s book explained to me that everyone battles it in whatever is their heart’s endeavor. In fact, the more a person wants to accomplish something, the stronger Resistance kicks in.
It’s just crazy.
If tomorrow morning by some stroke of magic every dazed and benighted soul woke up with the power to take the first step toward pursuing his or her dreams, every shrink in the directory would be out of business. Prisons would stand empty. The alcohol and tobacco industries would collapse, along with the junk food, cosmetic surgery, and infotainment businesses, not to mention pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and the medical profession from top to bottom. Domestic abuse would become extinct, as would addiction, obesity, migraine headaches, road rage, and dandruff!
Look in your own heart. Unless I’m crazy, right now a still, small voice is piping up, telling you as it has ten thousand times before, the calling that is yours and yours alone. You know it. No one has to tell you.Game Of Thrones Season 7 And unless I’m crazy, you’re no closer to taking action on it than you were yesterday or will be tomorrow, You think Resistance isn’t real? Resistance will bury you.
So the journey begins. Wish me luck.
Get off my back Resistance!
